Masterpieces of Musical Art Performed in Astana Opera

The Masterpieces of Musical Art was performed in the prestigious Astana Opera by talented soprano Mariya Mudryak and Honored Worker of Kazakhstan Medet Chotabayev.

Their performances on March 2, 2018, were accompanied by the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra with well-known Belgian conductor, Ilya Mashkevich. The symphony orchestra performed in the capital city of Kazakhstan for the first time.

Under the director of the famous Mashkevich, the orchestra performed Symphony No. 9 by the great Czech composer Antonin Dvořák.

“I want to bring life to what the composer had in his mind while writing the symphony. Not just to play the notes and scores, but to discover something new in the music. Of course, you can’t go away from the traditions, but you can always bring something of your own,” Mashkevich said.

The conductor has a busy tour schedule as a guest conductor in France, Germany, Japan, Russia and other countries. He also conducts master classes and writes music for theatre and film.

Meanwhile, Kazakh opera singer Mudryak will be presenting Puccini’s opera La Boheme at the Astana Opera on April 19th. She will also perform at the Bolshoi Theater in Russia and Beirut.

“I decided to present the past, the present and the future. The opera Don Pasquale is my past, the Faust is my present in which I make my debut in Australia this year and my future is Il Trovatore where I play Leonora.”

“I love all the characters because I think if artists don’t like their characters, they will not be able to perform well in the opera,” the opera singer, who will turn 25 next month, said.

In Gaetano Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Mudryak will perform Norina’s aria, the solo she sang when she started her career as an opera singer.

The Astana Opera will also stage numerous events in spring, including the famous Swan Lake (March 7 and March 8), a gala opera concert (March 10) and Kyz Zhibek national opera (March 22 and March 23).
