Baikonur in Pictures by Irish Photographer Andrew Mcconnell

Famous Irish photographer, Andrew McConnell held an exhibition, Re-entry which showcases photographs captured at Baikonur Cosmodrome in South Kazakhstan.

The exhibition was held at the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow.

The photographs display depicts the captured moments of astronauts landing at the Baikonur Cosmodrome and welcoming of the crew at the International Space Station.

McConnell said he was amazed to see the Kazakh steppe and he wanted to show the history of humanity in his pictures.

“I decided to go to Kazakhstan and see the steppe and Baikonur as I heard about that place where astronauts land to earth and rockets are launched into space. It’s just outside of Kazakhstan and nearby Russia. Not many people know this but every three months, we see this event takes place. I thought it was a wonderful event.”

“It’s a very positive thing. It shows what humanity is capable of if we work together and I wanted to document this,” the award-winning photographer said.

McConnell is one of the highly regarded photographers in the world. His photographs have appeared in top global publications such as Le Monde, Vanity Fair and National Geographic.
