«Astana Musical»: Conquering world stages

Astana Musical – the most unusual theater in the region – prepared an extensive tour program dedicated to Astana’s 20th anniversary. The program includes the greatest hits of the 20th century, Kazakh composers’ famous works, world best sellers, The Beatles songs and the best classic compositions. Young artists are going to captivate Kazakh and foreign spectators with their voices and choreography. They also plan to perform their absolutely special interpretations of well-known musicals – Romeo and Juliet, Notre Damme de Paris. The artists are also expected to present the traditional art of the Kazakh people by performing ethno-folkloric musicals, such as “Kiz Zhibek”, “Er Tostik”, and “Dostar Serti.”

 - Our first tours will be held in Almaty, Shymkent and Atyrau. There is another big event that is important for Kazakhstan’s theatrical history – it’s participation in Avignon Festival. The Avignon Festival will be held in France, in a small city of Avignon. About 2.5 to three thousand theater crews will gather there for three weeks, from the 6th to 21st of July. Astana Musical is the first theater from Central Asia that is going to participate in the Avignon Festival.

Astana’s youngest theatrical crew has already become popular with European spectators in such cities as Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Brussels and Moscow. Astana Musical artists successfully demonstrated rich Kazakh culture at the best stages of the world and captivate the audience with the traditional art and authentic and vibrant performances. Thanks to them Kazakh traditional poetic and musical legacy is presented in various countries in all its diversity and beauty.

 - We can say that there are few permanent theaters in the world. Musical is a commercial project and when they assemble a team in Europe, they gather a separate team of singers and a separate ballet team. Our theater is the only permanent theater in Central Asia that works with a professional team.

Astana Musical’s team consists of 70 young artists. They all went through a tough casting. The theater’s staff selected not just talented but also motivated and ambitious artists, because they were to form a new theatrical movement in the region. And they are not going to stop. They plan to stage a new musical play based on the legendary Kazakh lyrico-epic poem “Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu.”
