London hosted an international Silk Road fashion show, where Kazakh couturiers presented their works. The designers tried to convey the national motives in their collections. Kazakhstan-born Alma Farmer, who lives in England now, was the organizer of the show. The theme of Silk Road has never been as relevant and interesting in politics, economy and culture as it is now, Alma believes.
ALMA FARMER, ORGANIZER:
- Kazakh designers are unique. They have their own style. They are bringing new things that aren’t known here. Therefore, our goal is to promote them.
Young and talented designers Aizhan Salimbayeva and Zhanar Kainarbayeva volunteered to show the unique Kazakh fashion history. Their works are made in different styles, but they have common oriental elements. Zhanar Kainarbayeva presented a new collection of dresses and cardigans made of felt.
VESNA PETKOVICH, FASHION CRITIC:
- But they are also very original designers which I appreciated more I must say personally because it doesn’t mean they are better or worse than others.
