Students of one of the Chelyabinsk universities are learning about culture of Kazakh people
The world is showing interest in Kazakh traditions, musical and poetic art, folklore and national cuisine. Students of one of the Chelyabinsk universities are learning about culture of Kazakh people through photographs. These are the photos of rural life, the rituals and festive events. The photos tell about the life of the Kazakhs living in the Southern Ural. The pictures will be included in the ethnic encyclopedia. The project was launched three years ago. 60 best pictures have been selected for the exposition.
IREK ATNAGULOV, ETHNOLOGIST:
- We look at the neighboring peoples and fail to see their spirit, and their inner world. The shots capture private moments of everyday life and festive events that are not visible at a glance.
Photos are not the only source of learning about the Kazakh culture. Students also take part in field research and have Kazakh traditional dishes at the university canteen.
VLADIMIR SADYRIN, RECTOR, SOUTH URAL STATE HUMANITARIAN PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY:
- Our canteen organizes the day of national cuisine and serve beshbarmak. It tastes different when prepared by Kazakh cooks rather than ours. Students love it.
34,000 Kazakhs live in Chelyabinsk. Local national centers give them an opportunity not only to know their customs but also learn the Kazakh language.
KANAT SEITIKOV, HEAD OF KAZAKH NATIONAL CENTER:
- We are trying to organize additional Kazakh language courses at schools located in places with high density of Kazakh people to make sure that children speak their mother tongue.
The photo exhibition was first held in the Chelyabinsk Regional Historical Museum last year. This year, according to the decision of the project authors and the university management, the works are exhibited in the university as a symbol of friendship between the peoples of Russia and Kazakhstan.
