Second annual MediaCAMP Fest starts in Central Asia

Over 500 media experts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan participate in the work of the second annual Central Asian media festival MediaCAMP Fest. The event organized by regional program MediaCAMP with the support of the United States Agency for International Development USAID will last until September 19. Trainings, lectures, film screenings, various sessions, discussions and talk shows will be held online during the fest.

“This year, we are holding the second festival and competition as part of the large five-year MediaCAMP program. It is no coincidence that we named the festival “Journalism in a Changing World”. Today's situation proves that you need to be ready for a change. We saw one more time how important is the profession of a journalist. This pandemic helped people understand the importance of journalism and the media,” said Director of the Representative Office of Internews in Central Asia Marat Bigaliyev at the opening of the festival.

Organizers said that MediaCAMP Fest has become a professional platform for regional journalists, where they can not only share their experience and ideas, but also talk about the difficulties they encountered when covering quarantine measures and the peculiarities of the COVID-19 course in their states.

USAID Central Asia Regional Mission Director Christopher Edwards noted that they are proud to have supported the media as they strive to create a more balanced environment. The current pandemic has once again demonstrated how important free media is, how much unrestricted access to information and citizens' rights are needed.

During the festival, on September 15 and 16, such master classes as “Journalism on YouTube”, “How a journalist can create his own brand”, “How to recognize and prevent burnout”, “Interesting about science” will take place. An online cinema hall Artdocfest, an independent festival of auteur non-fiction films, will also be open. It will be led by a famous Russian film director and producer Vitaly Mansky. On September 17, two ethics talk shows will be organized in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The MediaCAMP Fest will end on September 19 with the MediaCAMP Award ceremony.
