200 Kazakh athletes will participate in the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan
Nearly 200 Kazakh athletes will participate in the World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan. The Kazakh delegation is one of the largest team in the upcoming competition. Kazakhstan is preparing for the start of international competitions.
The construction work of the highway from Bishkek to Cholpon-Ata city where the World Nomad Games will take place is about to be completed. The motorway has been expanded into a four-lane highway.
SHABDANBEK IMANKULOV, SENIOR STAFF, KYRGYZ MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT AND ROAD:
- There are some problems. We won’t finish the second layer. We can’t finish it physically. This is a big project. The highway is 104 kilometres long. Most importantly, we will finish.
The main sports facility for the upcoming World Nomad Games is the Cholpon-Ata Hippodrome. Two years ago it was completely reconstructed in accordance with the Kyrgyz motifs. The modernized arena complemented the exterior decoration. The arena hosts not only large-scale theatrical performances but also a number of competitions.
ELAMAN MAMYTOV, DIRECTOR OF HIPPODROME IN KYRGYZSTAN:
- We have planned to remove one layer of sand on the Kok-Boru field. Now we are losing colour. When horses run, they fail. We will remove this layer before the games start and prepare the field.
53 countries have applied to participate in the World Nomad Games. Contestants will compete for nearly 600 medals. The total prize fund of the World Nomad Games is 26 million Kyrgyz Som, which is almost US$400,000. One of the 37 disciplines, where the strongest athletes will be chosen, is the national wrestling, Kazakh kures. Meanwhile, the cultural part of the program involves introducing the rich spiritual nomads’ world to visitors.
