Review on Central Asia

Astana will host the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2020. The decision was made as a result of the session of the WTO General Council, CA-News agency reported. The conference will be held in Central Asia for the first time. The event will be attended by the ministers of trade and other experts representing 164 WTO member countries. Kazakhstan joined the WTO in 2015.


Tajikistan’s economy grew by 7.2 per cent in the first six months of the year. In nominal terms, the volume of GDP in Tajikistan exceeded US$3 billion over the first six months of 2018. According to the National Bank of Tajikistan, the inflation rate in the consumer sector from January to June this year declined to 0.9 per cent compared to the first six months of 2017.


The Uzbek Government is studying possibilities of developing wolfram deposits. A foreign company will provide support to Uzbekistan in this field. The technical and economic exploration of the Yakhton mine will be held jointly. In case of positive results, the investor will start preparations for the deposit’s industrial development. According to Uzbekistan’s State Committee for Geology, the Yakhton deposit’s reserves total 11 million tonnes of ore.


Kyrgyzstan will promote the country’s touristic potential at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, news service reported. At the international exhibition, Kyrgyzstan also plans to present its centuries-old culture and traditions. EXPO 2020 in Dubai will be held from October 20 to April 10.


Conductors representing the worldwide choir art will arrive in Kazakhstan. Astana will host a large-scale music project ‘Astana – Voice of the World’ international event between October 10-11, Central Asia News website reported. The event will be attended by music bands representing 20 countries, including the United States, South Africa, Israel, Hungary, Turkey and others. The festival will be held as part of the 6th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
