Trade union for labor migrants in Central Asia will be established in Kazakhstan
A trade union for labor migrants in Central Asia will be established in Kazakhstan. Experts announced the news at the meeting dedicated to the issues of social and labor relations of the Central Asian countries. According to the participants, the trade union will be opened taking into account international experiences in order to protect the rights of migrant workers from neighboring countries.
YERLAN SAIROV, DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON, FEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- For example, trade unions always cooperate with each other in Europe. First, Kazakhstan is a transit country for migrants. Second, Kazakhstan is a destination country. A large number of labor migrants from Central Asia countries arrive in Kazakhstan. Therefore, the protection of the rights of labor migrants working in Kazakhstan is an urgent issue.
Today, the mutual trade turnover between Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries is estimated at nearly $3.6 billion. There are 4,000 enterprises operating in Kazakhstan with the participation of the capital from neighboring states. Therefore, Kazakhstan pays special attention to socio-economic integration with other Central Asian countries.
ALI IBROKHIM SAIDZODA, SPOKESPERSON, FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT TRADE UNIONS OF TAJIKISTAN:
- A joint memorandum will be adopted, where five main goals of the trade union on protection of interests of labor migrants will be considered. The memorandum will include social and labor rights, labor protection and safety.
According to the forecast of the International Organization for Migration, in the next ten years the Central Asian countries will need four million people in the labor force and this figure will continue to increase after 2026. In the next five years, Kazakhstan’s need in the labor force will grow up to 60,000 people annually.
