Review on Central Asia

Tashkent hosted an international workshop on Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). According to Kommersant.Uz news service, representatives of the World Bank, the United States Agency for International Development and the United Nations Development Program participated in the event. The main goal of the participants was to prepare extensive recommendations for the materials needed for the WTO accession. The Uzbek officials submitted the application in 1994.    


Tajik and Brazilian governments are planning to strengthen economic cooperation. According to the website of the Tajik Chamber of Commerce and Industry, its chairman, Sharif Said and Brazilian ambassador Claudio Lins identified the most promising fields of partnership, such as joint development of water power resources, mining and tourizm industries as well as information technologies and banking system.    


Uzbekistan was represented at the Mediterranean Tourism Exchange Fair in Naples for the first time. According to news website, the event visitors paid special attention to the Uzbek historic and cultural heritage as well as the cuisine. Experts said that presentation of Uzbekistan’s touristic potential became a significant step towards expanding the tourist flow to Uzbekistan, especially from the Southern regions of Italy.
