SAGYNJAN APAKASHEV, HEAD OF THE STATE INSTITUTION "AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT OF KARAGANDA REGION”
-The increasing demand gives us additional market to export our meat. This means we could increase the number of sheep and expand the pasture area. It is also considered as a capital investment in the agricultural sector.
Large scale projects, which focus on the export of meat, are being implemented in East Kazakhstan. Meat processing facilities, which have a capacity of 30,000 tonnes of meat, will be built in the cities of Ayagoz and Semey. In 2018, the region exported a total of 228 tonnes of meat in which 132 tonnes were sold to Uzbekistan and the balance to Russia. In 2019, the export of meat is expected to reach one and a half thousand tonnes. Local entrepreneurs are planning to expand their geography of export to China apart from Uzbekistan and Russia.
Meanwhile, Turkestan region also recorded high export volume. Last year, the region sold three million tonnes of vegetables, potatoes and other horticultural crops. The value represents 43 per cent of the agricultural share of the entire country. About 500,000 tonnes of agricultural products from the region were exported to Russia, Belarus, Latvia and Germany. The farming area in the region totals about 3,000 hectares whereby over 100,000 tonnes of fruits and berries were grown. In 2018, the farming area was expanded to 813,500 hectares from 2017.
NURBEK BADYRAKOV, HEAD OF THE AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT IN REGION
-Due to the advanced technology used, it is possible to implement drip irrigation system on 7,174 hectares of land. (Generally, the drip irrigation system covers 65,000 hectares). There are new greenhouses on an area of 181 hectares and today it is located on 1,341 hectares due to land expansion. In terms of new technologies, we are the leaders in the country.
Currently, the agricultural products that are meant for export are not in the global leading positions. (Therefore, industry players need to step up and increase their production). Kazakhstan’s largest share of export products is minerals. The country exports low volume of metals and chemical products. Last year, the main buyers of the locally-made products were Italy, China, the Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine.
