Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Norway demonstrated positive results
Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Norway demonstrated positive results this year. In the first eight months of 2018, the trade turnover between the countries totaled over US$33 million. There are more than 35 joint ventures operating in Kazakhstan. (The parties recognized that the cooperation was very fruitful). The states have enhanced partnerships in trade, investment, cultural and humanitarian sectors.
ILYAS OMAROV, CHARGE D’AFFAIRES OF KAZAKHSTAN IN NORWAY:
- I would like to mention that this year, in addition to the successful cooperation between Kazakhstan and Norway in the political, economic, trade and investment sectors, the Norwegians paid more interest to our history and culture, because we have common origins. A lot of Norwegian tourists showed their interest in Kazakhstan and plan visiting Kazakhstan next year.
Today, Kazakhstan is attractive to the Scandinavians due to the profitable transit and logistics capacities and the Great Silk Road revival project.
CHRISTIAN KLEMMETSEN, COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR, LOGISTICS COMPANY:
- We have a fleet of rail containers going from Europe to all the -stan countries. It’s a very good option because it’s a lot faster than the sea freight and it’s a lot cheaper than the air freight, so, we see more and more Norwegian companies at least looking at it as a viable option for transporting goods that way. 00:03:10:19
Norwegian politicians and experts highly appreciate Kazakhstan’s anti-nuclear initiatives. Norway took part in implementation of President Nazarbayev’s initiative, the ATOM Project, having signed a petition aimed to abolish nuclear tests. Norwegians believe that Kazakhstan and Norway have common views on tolerance and interreligious dialogue.
INGRID ROSENDORF, SECRETARY GENERAL, COUNCIL OF RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES:
- What I experienced when I was there was that the Government and the presidency try to, you know, facilitate a dialogue between the religious communities and that is very much in correspondence with what we try to do here in Norway. So, Kazakhstan is also a growing multi-religious country. It is inspiring that also Kazakhstan is very much involved in international platform of advancing multi-religious cooperation, so that’s very good.
At the invitation of the Kazakh diplomats, designers of the ‘Fashion and Stage’ international festival presented a fashion show of the Kazakh traditional costumes in Norway. Local residents were struck by the similarity between the Kazakh and Norwegian ornaments. Norwegians were also fascinated by the beauty and colors of the Great Steppe depicted in the paintings presented at the meeting. Many Norwegians expressed a desire to visit Kazakhstan next year and contribute to the Kazakh-Norwegian cooperation.
