Export of Fish Products

Expansion of export market and growth of the agricultural supplies is the priority for the development of the domestic agro-industrial complex. Today, foreign buyers are interested not only in domestic wheat, meat, milk, vegetables, but also in fish products. 

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture, 17 of the country’s fish farms have confirmed compliance with the EU requirements for the quality of export products. Meanwhile, another 52 domestic producers have entered the China market. Kazakhstan’s fish are exported to more than 10 countries. In 2017, Kazakhstan exported fish for nearly $53 million.


 - Domestic fish is exported to Austria, Germany, Georgia, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Romania, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and the Czech Republic. The state program for development of the agro industrial complex will increase the volume of commercial fish farming from 1,600 tons to 5,000 by 2021. This would increase the utilization of processing capacities.

Today, the main fish processing enterprises are based in Atyrau, Almaty, and the East Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda regions. The total capacity of 72 enterprises is estimated at 87,000 tons per year. According to experts, Kazakhstan has good conditions for the development of fisheries. The area given for this purpose amounts to more than three million hectares. Moreover, the state supports the enterprises that are involved in the development of commercial fish farming. The support includes 30% compensation of costs for equipment purchase and 30% discount for fish feed.
