Kazakhstan is increasing its transit potential. Since the beginning of the year, trade transportations have been increased from China to Europe. In the first quarter of 2018, the volume of trade turnover via the Khorgos checkpoint on the Kazakh Chinese border has increased by 12%. 7.5 million tonnes of cargo worth nearly US$3 billion 800 million have been transported. Mostly electronics, textiles, clothing, shoes, vegetables and fruits have been exported from China. According to chairman of the Lianyungang port, Ding Rui, the work is continuing to make the Khorgos, Eastern Gate – Lianyungang corridor the intercontinental bridge.

 - Last year, the President of Kazakhstan and the President of China announced the necessity of creating an intercontinental bridge, which starts from Lianyungang and passes through Khorgos. This is one of the requirements for development of cooperation projects as part of the Silk Road. Lianyungang has become the basis of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China. We also have a base platform with countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
