Economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan plan to strengthen their relations on trade and economy. The countries are currently working on intensifying cooperation in agriculture, petro chemistry, pharmacy and machine industry. 

In lieu of the bilateral ties, Astana will host the first inter-regional Kazakhstan – Uzbekistan forum and Tashkent will host the regional economic congress of the Central Asia countries.  The events were announced at a joint meeting of the intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation held in Tashkent. 

Kazakh representatives initiated a discussion on establishing the Central Asia International Center for Cross-Border Cooperation at the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint in South Kazakhstan region with a capacity of up to 25, 000 people daily.

Meanwhile, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan has increased by 50 per cent in the first quarter of 2018. Uzbekistan plans to increase the import of Kazakh oil to five million tons as well as exporting higher amount of gas to Kazakhstan.  


- At the meeting, the parties discussed topics on bilateral economic cooperation in areas such as energy, transport and logistics. During the first three months, the trade grew by 50%. According to our plans, this year, we have achieved US$3 billion which was the goal of the presidents of our states.
