Kazakhstan intends to build friendly and mutually beneficial relations with African countries. Development of relations with the countries in Africa is defined as one of the priority areas in the concept of foreign policy set until 2020. Last year, Kazakhstan celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with South Africa. According to Ambassador of South Africa in Kazakhstan, today, the countries have great potential in cooperation in areas such as agriculture, energy, mining, education and finance. The states concluded a new agreement on simplifying visa rules for high-ranking officials and diplomats, which will also give impetus to strengthening bilateral ties.
KEITUMETSI SEIPELO THANDEKA MATTHEWS, SOUTH AFRICAN AMBASSADOR TO KAZAKHSTAN:
- At the moment we have a huge contract between one of our defense companies and Kazakhstan that is the biggest investment. We have also trade in engineering, chemical products. We are both mining countries so this is a big relationship in terms of mining resources. A lot of mining equipment that is used in Kazakhstan is purchased from South Africa; it is made in South Africa.
