Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan: new directions of cooperation

According to Uzbek first deputy Prime Minister, Achilbai Ramatov, Uzbekistan welcomed the Kazakh investors’ participation during the meeting of the intergovernmental commission on bilateral relations in Tashkent. Uzbeks called the Kazakh investors to participate in major construction projects and joint mining operations at the open dialogue meeting. Achilbai Ramatov highlighted Kazakhstan’s rich experience in metal production.


- 25 years is a quarter of a century and during this time we achieved a lot of goals. We couldn’t realize all the opportunities in due time, but I think that this year we increased the turnover by 30% and other directions, too.

The meeting participants discussed intergovernmental commission, prospects for development of bilateral relations in energy, transport, tourism, oil and gas as well as in culture and humanitarian assistance and topics of military-technical cooperation. Kazakh first deputy Prime Minister, Askar Mamin, focused on large-scale works as part of implementation of goals of the Heads of the two states. He also noted that domestic production of railway machinery will be exported to Uzbekistan.


- We are pleased to note that the first contracts are concluded in a short time this year, particularly, we mentioned the contract for supply of optical and night vision devices for Uzbekistan’s armed forces. We consider the first step which will be followed by new projects. We will actively work and cooperate in this direction.

In 9 months the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan increased by 30% and reached US$1.5 billion. By the end of the year the trade turnover will amount to US$2 billion. Today Kazakhstan has more than 800 enterprises with the participation of the Uzbek capital. It is expected that the volume of Kazakhstan’s investments in the neighboring country will also grow. The meeting participants discussed development of the railway industry and benefits in the export cargo transportation. The parties signed the relevant protocol.
