Abay Peak. 4010 meters above the sea level. The first president of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev is raising state flag on the top of Zailiysky Alatau summit.
Nursultan Nazarbayev dedicated his first ascension to the 150th anniversary of Abay. In that year, mountaineers – participants of two-day Alpiniade, followed his example. In couple of years, this tradition has taken its root. Now, for each significant anniversary of famous Kazakh poet, hundreds of mountaineers follow the same route that once was taken in 1995 by the first president of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev.
